Adriana is an AI researcher and policy specialist whose work sits at the intersection of artificial intelligence and human rights. She led Project AIMS (AI against Modern Slavery) at Mila – Quebec AI Institute, a multi-year collaboration developing AI tools to support compliance monitoring under the Modern Slavery Act. Before Mila, she worked as an AI Policy Researcher at The Future Society, a Harvard-incubated think tank focused on advancing the governance of AI. She recently advised Public Safety Canada on the risks and readiness of an AI-enabled system for assessing legal compliance, while in Australia, she is an AI Project Advisor to a collaboration between Monash University and the Office of the Australian Anti-Slavery Commissioner and a member of the Governance Institute of Australia’s AI Governance Expert Advisory Panel.
She holds a PhD in applied AI from Queensland University of Technology and a Master’s in International Public Management from Sciences Po Paris (PSIA), and her work bridges peer-reviewed machine learning research (ACL, ICLR) and AI governance and policy. She was named one of the 20 Rising Stars in AI Ethics in 2022 and won UNESCO IRCAI’s AI Award in 2021 for AI solutions to combat modern slavery.
