Branka Panic is the Founding Director of AI for Peace, a US-based think tank ensuring artificial intelligence benefits peace, security, and sustainable development. She is a Non-Resident Fellow at New York University’s Center on International Cooperation, focusing on data-driven approaches to conflict prevention and peacebuilding, and hosts the “Data for Peace” online series.
Branka serves as a Stimson-Microsoft Responsible AI Fellow, Senior Advisor on AI to the German Federal Foreign Office, and is a member of UNESCO Women4Ethical AI and the IEEE Global Initiative on Ethics of Autonomous and Intelligent Systems. With 15 years of global experience in humanitarian, peace, and development fields, she researches the benefits, risks, and ethical implications of emerging technologies.
Her contributions have earned international recognition, including selection as one of the 100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics (2022) and winner of the “She Shapes AI 2024/25” award in AI and Peace.
Branka holds an M.A. in International Development Policy from Duke University and an M.S. in International Security from the University of Belgrade. She is a Rotary Peace Fellow Alumna and co-author of AI for Peace (Routledge, 2024).
