On the week of the release of Pope Leo’s first encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas, the Aspen Institute’s Aspen Digital and Religion & Society programs will host a discussion about Pope Leo XIV’s first encyclical and its commentary on AI.
Panelists will discuss the hazards and possibilities of AI as outlined in the encyclical and in the teachings of the Church, exploring the most compelling aspects of this 83-page document. How does the Pope’s stated vision to protect human dignity and agency align with the powerful private and public sector forces pursuing a more accelerationist approach?
The discussion will feature:
- Vilas Dhar (President, Patrick J. McGovern Foundation)
- Kim Daniels (Director, Initiative on Catholic Social Thought and Public Life at Georgetown University)
- Josh Good (Director, Religion & Society Program, The Aspen Institute)
- Moderated by Vivian Schiller (Vice President and Executive Director, Aspen Digital, The Aspen Institute)
