WASHINGTON, D.C. – November 1, 2023 – Leaders from across sectors and industries will headline the 8th annual Aspen Cyber Summit, including top representatives from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the White House, and the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

On Wednesday, November 15, experts from business, state and federal government, and civil society will take the stage at the 92nd Street Y in New York City to discuss how generative artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies will impact cybersecurity today and in the future.

Session topics will range from a personal discussion of how cybercrime impacts organizations and individuals to the growing importance of the cybersecurity of space-based systems. The Summit will also dig into the federal government’s search for unidentified flying objects (UFOs) as well as the role of technology in both fostering and fighting conspiracy theories and mis-/disinformation. The full agenda is now available at www.aspencybersummit.org/agenda as well as featured here.

The 2023 Aspen Cyber Summit will kick off with opening remarks from NIST Director Laurie Locascio on the Agency’s critical role in bolstering privacy, e-commerce, and national security, as well its new responsibility for developing guidelines and best practices for AI safety and security pursuant to the President’s October 30 Executive Order.

The morning sessions will dig deeper into the AI Executive Order, including a conversation on how the explosion of AI tools will impact cybersecurity. That panel will feature Heather Adkins of Google, Jameeka Green Aaron of Okta, and Sean Joyce of PwC, and Assistant Secretary Iranga Kahangama of the Department of Homeland Security. The session will be followed by a lightning talk with New York Times Technology Reporter Kashmir Hill on the proliferation of facial recognition technologies, and the implications of digital surveillance.

Later in the morning, election security experts will gather to discuss the 2024 election: Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, Harvard University Responsible AI Fellow Rumman Chowdhury, Krebs Stamos Group Partner Chris Krebs, and Emerson Collective CTO Raffi Krikorian.

At midday, the White House’s Anne Neuberger will join US Air Force Lt. General (Ret.) Jack Weinstein to cover how to keep space-based systems secure.

In the afternoon, SEC’s Director of Corporation Finance, Erik Gerding, will shed light on the Commission’s new rules for disclosing cybersecurity incidents. Following this one-on-one conversation, private sector cybersecurity executives – Veracode CEO Sam King, Paladin Capital Group Managing Partner Michael Steed, Splunk CEO Gary Steele, and Rapid7 CEO Corey Thomas – will spell out the implications of these new SEC rules for their day-to-day operations and long-term planning.

The complete agenda with session titles and speakers is included at the end of this press release. Media are invited to apply to attend the 2023 Aspen Cyber Summit in person free-of-charge. Please contact victoria@high10media.com to receive a promotion code. A livestream will also be made available for free to viewers around the world.

Last year, the Aspen Cyber Summit broke news on the role of cyber in military campaigns (Defense News) and its consequences in Ukraine (The Hill) during a discussion with the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Cyber Policy, Mieke Eoyang. Meanwhile, Chris Krebs, Founding Director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), made headlines during the event as he reinforced that elections officials did a “good job” (The Hill) securing the 2022 midterms and communicating accurate information to voters. Following several US airport websites being hit with attacks that the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) attributed to pro-Russian hackers, TSA Chief David Pekoske announced at the Summit that new cybersecurity requirements were in the works for the aviation industry (Government Executive).

This year’s Summit is made possible by media presenting sponsor The Record by Recorded Future News; presenting sponsors Google, Insight Partners, and OneSpan; gold sponsors Paladin Capital Group, PwC, and Splunk; and silver sponsors Apple Inc. and Coalition.
