Cities and towns with independent local news media have greater community trust, stronger civic engagement, and less polarization. Yet too many parts of the United States are “news deserts.”

Our Local News Sustainability project aims to ensure citizens have the independent, quality news and information they need to participate in democracy.

The Challenge

Newsrooms of today, big and small, operate in a changing economic and geopolitical landscape. As revenue models shift and public trust declines, it can be hard to stay afloat, let alone thrive for the long-term.

Our Approach

We bring together the practitioners, supporters, and experts who aim to restore local news in America via effective business models, audience engagement strategies, and collaborative partnerships to rebuild this critical foundation of democracy.
