Beyond the Beltway

From ransomware attacks on schools and hospitals to state-sponsored hacking of water utilities, state and local infrastructure has increasingly become a target of cyberattacks.

While activity from both cybercriminals and advanced nation-state actors are increasing, the federal government policy has shifted to put greater emphasis on states and localities to prevent and prepare for disasters, including cyberattacks.

Amid these changes in the threat and policy landscape, Aspen Digital is exploring the evolving space of intergovernmental cyber policy.

This project focuses on three core areas within intergovernmental cyber policy where Aspen Digital thinks additional clarification and action is needed:

  1. Sustaining federal support for state and local cybersecurity efforts in key strategy areas
  2. Identifying and sharing robust and effective resourcing models
  3. Elevating cybersecurity as a priority outside of Washington

This ongoing series brings together expert perspectives from across government, critical infrastructure organizations, private industry, and civil society to identify challenges and smart practices for building local capacity, as well as areas for consensus on effective intergovernmental collaboration.
